feedback and code contributions to support billions of mobile phones

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – May 11, 2009 – Funambol, the leading provider of mobile open source cloud sync and push email, declared today to be Funambol Community Day as the symbolic supported mobile phone counter on its website recently exceeded two billion. The company is recognizing its global community for its role in testing Funambol open source software on thousands of mobile phone models around the world, as well as providing significant feedback and code contributions.

Funambol is the world’s largest mobile open source project, whose software has been downloaded more than three million times by 50,000 developers in over 200 countries. Its global community of mobile developers helps test the software on a wide variety of phones, and provides timely feedback and code contributions, enabling the mobile cloud sync and push email software to provide the broadest device compatibility. Funambol can run on phones that include SyncML, Java ME, Symbian and BREW, as well as smartphones including iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile. Together, these phones exceed more than two billion devices.

“The Funambol Community is a great example of how open source accelerates mobile innovation,” said Stefano Maffulli, Funambol Community Manager. “Their efforts demonstrate what happens when people from around the world work together to benefit the common good. We are very pleased to declare May 11th to be Funambol Community Day to celebrate everyone in the community.”

To recognize and honor the members of its worldwide mobile developer community, the company has donated $250 to a charity, the The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, which collects mobile phones and distributes them to victims of domestic violence so that they may call for help in emergencies. They are interested in receiving working mobile phones, so if you have an old phone that you do not need anymore or wish to make a monetary contribution, please visit their website for donation instructions.
