Phoenix Technologies Partners with Funambol to Deliver Continuous Data Synchronization with BeInSync Mobile(TM)Allows Consumers and SMBs to Conveniently and Securely Access
Content on Mobile Devices, and to Share and Protect Their Digital Lives
MILPITAS, Calif. – Feb 17, 2009-PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ — Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), the leader in PC 3.0(TM) products, services and embedded technologies, today announced BeInSync Mobile to deliver continuous and seamless synchronization of mission-critical business data and rich media personal files that constitute a user’s digital life. BeInSync Mobile utilizes Funambol’s mobile open source technology to extend the reach of BeInSync(TM), Phoenix’s online synchronization and continuity solution, to the mobile phone category. Consumers can now experience seamless data synchronization between their phones and PCs, keeping their digital lives always ‘in sync.’
BeInSync Mobile is now in beta and will be available later this year at http://www.beinsync.com. The service is being demonstrated in Funambol’s booth #1J46 (Hall 1) at the 2009 GSMA Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona this week.
BeInsync Mobile redefines the way users can conveniently and securely access, share, and protect documents, rich media files, photos and other important digital data. Phoenix’s patent-pending, peer-to-peer BeInSync technology, coupled with Funambol’s mobile open source technology, allows users to access their digital resources anytime and anywhere. Users now have the ability to automatically keep files and folders synchronized and backed up across all digital devices, including smartphones and PCs.
The BeInSync offering sets a new standard for ease-of-use and supports the widest selection of handsets in the market. Phoenix’s PC OEM partners can now use BeInSync to offer new services to their customers and provide more offerings than what is available today from existing services such as Apple’s popular MobileMe. By offering such services, PC OEMs have an opportunity to significantly boost device sales and service revenues.
“Phoenix is driven by the needs of the mobile PC user and the benchmark of our PC 3.0(TM) strategy is to provide products and services that make the computing experience simpler, more efficient and more secure. BeInSync Mobile fulfills a significant desire by consumers to have continuous access to all of the content that make up their digital lives and puts powerful and flexible mobility options into their hands,” said Woody Hobbs, President and CEO of Phoenix Technologies.
“Phoenix is at the forefront of providing mobile consumers and SMBs with convenience-driven products that deliver greater efficiency and simplicity, goals that Funambol shares in creating our technology for continuous content availability,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO. “We are excited to partner with Phoenix on BeInSync Mobile to provide a simpler and superior solution to managing users’ digital and mobile lives.”
“Phoenix has transformed itself from being a leading provider of firmware to a leader in consumer solutions that fulfill a variety of mobile PC user needs, and BeInSync Mobile is a continuation of that strategy,” said Tim Bajarin, one of the world’s most sought-after personal technology pundits. “BeInSync and Funambol together provide sophisticated continuous communication technologies that translate into powerful mobile access for consumers.”
